The shot is a bit out of focus with low lighting. Still you get the jist of the composition and direction I am going. I will be taking another shot later, after I get it on the walls. No title as of yet. I will be moving on the fifth canvas possibly tonight. At least to start laying out the collage support then letting it dry. I am looking forward to rotating the five till I am comfortable with them being finished. I'm tempted to keep pushing for the sake of building a meditative tone in the color relationships. The monotone and analogous rule the day. I still harken back to post impressionist painter rules. Such as do not place compliments next to each other and never use black out of a tube, develop it from other colors. It will lend to a richness that charcoal black can not provide.
I have more to learn about collage and transferring images to canvas. I'm thinking small to samll, but I remember looking at Cecil Touchon's works and his scale up. I also wonder about losing the collage structure beneath after I paint over it. Could it have been put to better use elsewhere. Still, the scaled up painting does not have to be exhibited with the original work up. I have other concerns that have always lingered with me. Transferring or drawing out the design plainly on canvas. I remember using vine charcoal to sketch out item on the canvas before attacking it with a limited palette. As soon as I would lay the first tone next to a mark it would disintergrate. And the other lines would ensue quickly as I moved across the surface. Eventually I was lost. I brought the issue up to my Professor and was warned against graphite. So I moved on to compressed charcoal with a similar hitch. Eventually I began painting from sight, hedging bets each time on correcting proportion and depth. The approach lent itself to an otherworldly feel. Years later I finally bought a projection machine and collage never became so seamless between my designs and another's. I miss that little machine. I may have to reinvest.
Meanwhile now I a build surfaces; excavating from the bottom to top. I'm not seeking to replicate, so much as to rescue pieces at each level of resolution. Sometimes I know I can go to far and those have their own purpose to help me on others. My own private working collection.
Headed to the kitchen for a snack. I hope the day went well for you.
