Aleph
All works in this series are a mixed media combination involving collage and assemblage.
Details are accented by thread, graphite or gouache.
Pieces measure 12" x 18". The image sizes at 8" x 14".
Price: $10,000 for the series, unframed. $550 a piece.
Aleph's intent is to mark a direction and development with new materials. Namely wool fabrics. Each piece contains sewn elements that balance a tension between the stitched and hand sewn line. Pieces also balance the curvilinear flat forms of letters with the tactile organic feel of the wool.

Boreal Hail Ring
Boreal Hail Ring is mixed media collage executed in high detail with graphite.
The substrate is 26"Wx44"L, while the image, on average is 21"W x 36"L.
This series is current under production and will not be priced for sale till completion.
Boreal Hail Ring is a series build on the heels of Passive Passerine and Interloper. The series is anchored in creating a body of continuous lines that meaner across the surface of the constructed image. Balances between negative and positive space are key in causing the viewers' eye to dance across the page. The illusions of shadow, space and a reduction of color intensity aid in resolving asymmetrical compositions.

Equus Divise
While rummaging in a second hand store, I found a Middle Eastern doll. While looking it over, I remembered my former collection of dolls once featuring a shadow puppet from Thailand. Shadows and outlines were on my mind as I started sketching for a quilt inspired by the Virgin Mary detailed with the sun's reflective rays and my newly found fascination with horses. I was determined to fit all of it together: Mary with a one hundred horse retinue all in fabric exquisitely quilted. I started one by one with sketching impressions of horses then out on-site to pastures near by my home. All this to build a cache of applique templates. Mid spring 2011 I got side tracked and started working collages building into mixed media efforts. The small items are 7" by 10" while the larger works are roughly 8" by 14". This edition is not for sale.

Goldenrod
Media/Method: Mixed Media Collage
Dimensions: 12"W x 18"H Price: $400 a piece or $7,000 for the series Statement: I tend to keep remnants and clippings from my own paintings as well as from those I find at second hand shops. In Goldenrod, these pieces are matched with fabric scraps and thread to create pages much like those found in toddler board books. The visual shift focuses on adult sensitivities for color and design. |
Interloper
Interloper is a mixed media collage series containing accents of encaustic.
The base is sized at 12" by 18". The images are 8" by 14". $7,000 for the series unframed or $400 a piece. Interloper is created in a limited palette incorporating translucent and highly patterned materials. Structure for the series is rigid and depends on perpendicular angles. Motion between strips is activated to run in parallel and open into new spaces. The wax adds complexity of texture building the surface higher to cut in or polish sheen. |
Introvert's Rhyme
Media/Method: Introvert's Rhyme is a mixed media collage series.
Dimensions: The image size is 8" x 12" executed on a 12" x 18" ground. Price: $12,000 for the series unframed and $650 a piece. Statement: The title of this series is an understated koan. What is an introvert's rhyme but silence? This series explores quiet landscapes of the mind as well as the trailings of words and images left in the mind during meditation. Juxtaposed text can be considered as the result of stream of consciousness writing. As an immediate reaction to the rendered image the prose attempts nothing but to synthesize the adjacent imagery. Meanwhile, the limited palette of black inks and white highlights harken to the days of books filled with etchings. The contrast sets the stages for an iconic image to form in the mind. |
Jealousy's Private Dominion
What you might ask is about the media and method. The core is needle turn applique and thread painting. The paper supports bring more texture to play with the eye. I finish off with various water media and office products. The title comes from my fascination with Vuillard and Bonnard. If I remember correctly, both painted interiors religiously to the point you wonder what happened in those rooms to give the artists such passion to render so romantically. This series is partially about making presumptions about people's lives. Acts of presumption lead to pomposity, jealousy, prejudice, and covetousness just to name a few. Sooner or later, wishing you were the other leads to obsession and an inferiority complex. This of course till you are let in and the world and stars shift. Presumptuous lies make for a internal silencing that lasts almost unto death. A life of closed doors and blinded windows comes as grace and your own nest never seems as comfortable as it once was. Hidden jealousies eventually take over and corrode the soul from the inside out.
Each image measures 8" x 14" while centered on a 12"x 18" substrate. The series is unframed and is available for $12,000 USD. Each picture is available price by itself for $650 a piece. Shipping, insurance, and confirmation costs not included. |
Open Development
There are two approaches to a 10"x 10" block. The first pass concentrated on created layered depth using a few materials. Being able to see completely back to the substrate is very important. Both series are created with a vibrant dynamic of motion thanks to meticulous placement and an economy of color created by tempering simple palettes with the schemes already present in the collaged papers. Thread painted houses is the second approach to articulating form. This body of work was the first time I had thread painted at all, let alone on fabric. The effect leaves a warm residing in the heart almost crying out "This is my little house in my little town". Both series have become a reference in the studio and are not for sale. However, inquiries for commission in this vein are welcome.
Passive Passerine
Passive Passerine is a mixed media collage series pairing paper with graphite drawings and acrylic overlays.
The base size is 12" x 18", while the images vary with an average size of 8" x 14". The series is priced at $13,000 unframed. Single images are available for $800 a piece. This series was completed in March of 2013. Passerine is the classification of a type of perching or song bird. My focus from the category was a Starling. My last year at University I was a the studio late on a Friday and found a limping Starling by my car. I took on the adventure and got it to a specialist some distance away. Having bonded with it early on, the effect lasted through to 2012. While on the way to Wal-mart, where black bird roost en force, I found a dead starling and began photographing its plumage for my files. The graphite and acrylic patterns in most of the collages are based on the plumage. Other symbols such as the sewing tissue overlays and the wood block prints speak too of personal language and understanding passive aggressive behavior and shyness in context of relationships. |
Scritch Scritch
Scritch Scritch is a series of drawing named after one of my Grandmother's comments. She often comments that an object or recipe is made from scritch scritch instead of "made from scratch". All of the worked drawings are built on a collaged surface. Several are accented by ink or gouache.
Sizes are various as well as the prices which are contained in the captions. Prices vary and are calculated for unframed artwork. Impetus for the work came from a need to get back to the basics and build my sensitivity for light and shadow. To make the drawing effort more integral to my working style, I made the decision to work on prepared surfaces with juxtaposed images in random organization. The initial practice produced excellent results. After that point I committed to the method to become apart of my repertoire. |

Price: $5,000 for the series and $550 for a single item.
Statement: This is the third exploration of pairing text with imagery. The writing does not have a central them. It focuses on a stream of consciousness approach and allows the topic to morph and develop in any direction. The three dimensional additions are developed from found objects. This approach is similar to approaches taken in art journals, but the page is removed from context to stand on its own merit.
