Besides that, nothing. Good day at the shop, especially the meeting. I found things that are cheaper there than at JoAnn fabrics. Purchases for July are lining up quickly. Too bad I've got car repairs first. Kinda swipes the list at the ankles. Have a good night.
I , I, I can't do this, but I did. I felt like these were to sacred to me to post, but I did after being berated by a few people cause they wanted to see what I've been working on in the past 24 hours. I'm afraid the net is too public and I'm afraid the images will get swiped, stolen, copied, mass derided. Basically I'm attached to them and wanted to work them up to a larger size and more completion before showing. I think I have a good idea, but maybe to soon to be shown. Then again you may be a descendent of Winslow homer and find these trite and boring. Well, I don't have much to say to that. I seem to be in the zone integrating old sketches with new ideas. Besides that, nothing. Good day at the shop, especially the meeting. I found things that are cheaper there than at JoAnn fabrics. Purchases for July are lining up quickly. Too bad I've got car repairs first. Kinda swipes the list at the ankles. Have a good night.

So here I am awake and I wonder where you might be with your iced green tea latte and iced lemon pound cake. Wait, hold on. that is me daydreaming about next week and what I'll order. You're welcome to get there before me and order the same. Meanwhile I've started a new project and this left is just the beginning of a seventeen pic run. I've tripped the light fantastic and gone down memory lane to find some of these images from older journals and sketchbooks. Creatura over there is from a meandering or two down ways Ancient Native America called home. Check out how she has begun to transform: The section is in the process of being buttonhole stitched around the edges for each piece. By hand of course. When I finally get a sewing machine that does that it will have quilting stitches built in as well and there will be rejoicing in the village. I can see the townspeople peeking out of there houses checking to see if it is time yet. Not yet close, but that day will come.
I wonder weather I am doing the right thing. It is not full blown cultural appropriation, but I say if someone else drew it better than me, by all means borrow till my hearts content. Especially if it is not copyrighted. For instance, what kind of fool would I be try to pass of Keith Herring's running man as my own? Maybe a tribute in one piece, but not to hawk a whole series. Eek! Each piece will be the front of a purse. The second time the heads are made will be for tapestries. I'm already dreaming of exquisite corpse like bodies or expansive wings. If I'm dreaming might as well dream big. Totems en fabrique. Same problem as yesterday. I post the pic in a sec. Done. The eye is a shisha mirror, the photo did not catch the reflection. Looking forward to quilting. ~later. N. Hey! It's me, over to the left. You can catch about two millimeters of my index finger holding up the pepper plant. The peppers are large this year. They are called "Big Bertha's" according to my mother. I waited till the last possible moment before they had to be picked and eating to start photographing and drawing them. I still remember the summer I went to the garden everyday at 4pm. to paint. I may try to get back to that. Keeping up my primary skills is of great value to me. I also started in on the parsley plant. It has completely gone to seed. The seeds are drying now and I'm looking forward to building the base of The Medicine Wars which is the wood block prints of herbs grown in my garden and here at mother's house. I have more encouragement now to endeavor The Medicine Wars with thoughts of completion and not just leaving the notes on the shelf and the file on the computer. Why do I have this support? I've accomplished another goal. I proved it to myself. I have satisfied the urge, completed the research and experiments, and scratched the itch. I've finished a painting and there will be more as I keep getting the grounds planned and executed before completing the task by painting. The pictures are below. I have two weeks before I glaze the yellow piece. Time to dry. I plan to do the same with the other, though I am told they are both done, I know in the eyes and initial vision that they need to be pushed a little further. Form what I can figure out it took my nine years to find my method. Archivality and all. I'm happy and I feel like I can put one more notch in the shelf and keep working on imagery and motif. I have in the past gone head long into visual language. Figuring mine out from the start, revamping one and building another. It had bothered me that my work had no overt discussion to impel, nor a statement to make as other artist prize themselves on making. Instead of commenting on the state of world affairs, I tend to look backward into the ancient and mythological. I am longing to find a home there. Enjoy the pics. I will repost pics after the final touches and glazes are dry them photographed. |
