N.A. Jones Biography
Taking art seriously did not begin until starting her undergraduate career at Hiram College in Ohio. Discussions with the professors outside of class were a staple to the weeks in the class studio. As a result Jones was allowed to experiment independently. As a result, she developed the foundations of her method by informing it through tradition. Lengthy nights working away in the art building yielded a strong preference for abstract expression. Through intaglio, woodblock printing, painting, and ceramics she codified a process for creating signature work. With this increased experimentation over the early years, more people became attracted to scope in her development. Still, a fire in the belly did not ignite until her senior year. While reflecting over a faculty show, she took note to change her direction and began a quiet fascination to the work of George Schroeder, the art department chair. That autumn started with an obsession over the techniques of collage.
Years later during graduate school at Texas Woman’s University, Jones would take that quiet introduction to collage and Schroeder’s techniques to heart. Collage, photomontage, assemblage and dumpster diving would become the bedrock upon which a staid technique and principle creative philosophy would be founded. The philosophy not only became entrenched in reasoning the blending of disparate materials, media, and techniques into one cohesive creation. It also bore the reasons behind constructs that are sourced in Jones’ personal journals. For example, creating pieces that consider the accessibility of art to both high and low classes is one of her primary mantras.
After completing the Master of Fine Arts degree successfully, Jones would return to the discipline of her first Masters, Library Science. She served as a librarian in both academic and public fields for almost four years. Within the last year of librarianship she turned her sights back to her first love, art. Life lent her encouragement and she creates, collects, designs, and develops the direction of new bodies of work since 2007. As for her endeavors since 2012, she focuses on participating in competitions using her hand made self designed art quilts and producing a collage series once a year, designing one-of-a-kind recipes, and creating unconventional crafts.
Jones has permanently resided in Texas for 23 years. She lives with her mother in a lakeside community north of Dallas, Texas.
